Select a painting of your choice, and analyze that work according to the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design.
VA1: Media, Techniques and Processes: The student demonstrates understanding and can apply media, techniques and processes.
In your sketchbook, create a drawing of your choice of common household item, such as a plant, a vase, etc. Select the media that you feel best fits your drawing. In your journal, indicate the techniques you used based upon the Principles of Design and the Elements of Art. Delineate why you chose these particular techniques. Store your work in your digital portfolio.
VA1b: The student produces a portfolio that incorporates a variety of works of art to include media, technological tools, techniques and processes.
Build your digital portfolio with works from your sketchbook by adding three new pieces:
A digital art work using the technological means of your choice (eg., a computer program for digital art), a mixed media work of art with a subject, symbol or idea of your choice, and a sketch using your choice of graphite, crayons or colored pencils. Be sure to title each work, and sign your name, as you see fit!
M3c: identify and explain relationships among classes of two- and three-dimensional geometric objects, i.e., sides, angles, etc.
Research various geometric shapes, such as triangles, spheres, cylinders, rectangles and squares. In your sketchbook, draw both two and three dimensional versions of these shapes. Add these to your digital portfolio, and share them with your classmates.
M3i: draw and construct representations for two- dimensional objects using a variety of tools.
Using crayons and colored pencils of your choice, create a series of three sketches of objects that are two-dimensional. (Your choice of objects.) Store these in your digital portfolio, and share with your classmates and teacher.
M3k: identify and explain projections and cross sections by visualizing different perspectives of three- dimensional objects and spaces.
Select three objects of your choice, and, in on three separate pieces of paper, draw both a projection and a cross-section of each object. Demonstrate your view of different perspectives in terms of three dimensions of these objects. Store this work in your digital portfolio.
